The Naked Olive Serves Food with a Side of Environmental Consciousness
The Kennett Township Environmental Advisory Council recently wrote an article regarding communities who have chosen to ban the use of plastic bags. Below is a snippet of the article. To read the full article, Click Here.
"Many communities in our region (including the state of Delaware) have chosen to ban the use of plastic bags at retail establishments. The intention is to reduce the amount of plastic disposed into the environment, both in landfills and litter. Plastic bags can take 1,000 years to decompose, and they can be difficult to recycle because they can become stuck in and jam recycling machinery.
Kennett Township is not currently banning the retail use of plastic bags. However, some retailers are proactively choosing to avoid plastics as part of their businesses. One such example is The Naked Olive, a Mediterranean-themed restaurant on West Cypress Street. Owner Dimitris says that when it came time to decide if they should use paper bags, “…we never considered anything else. Plastic is harmful to the environment, and we do not wish to contribute to its decline. We can’t single-handedly save the world, but we can certainly do our part, both at home and in our business.”
