Board of Supervisors Meeting Recap

BOARD OF SUPERVISORS MEETING RECAP:

The Kennett Township Board of Supervisors met on Wednesday, March 18, 2026.

The meeting kicked off with a recap of the Police Facility Design Workshop that was held on Wednesday, March 11th.  You can watch the workshop from March 11th by visiting our website. If you are interested in just the recap and the data that was collected at the workshop you can view the March 18th meeting recording.

The Supervisors approved a new HR, Payroll & Training system as well as adding a financial technology solution to the Accounts Payable Department.  The Rosedale Walk Land Development Project (formerly the Smith Property) had their first escrow release approved.  The Supervisors also approved the "Kennett Area Shared Open Spaces Partnership Pilot" program for the Parrish Trail.

The Department Heads provided updates from their February 2026 reports, which can be found on the website.

The Supervisors also discussed the possibility of reopening the Chandler Mill Bridge.  This was a discussion topic to gauge the community's interest or disinterest in the option and nothing was decided.

All documents for the meeting can be found on the agenda and the full video is available on our website.

April 11th at 2pm at the Kennett Library: Doors open at 1:30pm

A Conversation with Norman E. Donoghue II, historian and author, facilitated by author Mark Bowden.

The American Revolution was complex and controversial. The series will open by exploring the dilemma Philadelphia Quaker leaders faced in upholding their commitment to pacifism. Donaghue’s book, Prisoners of Congress, Quakers in Exile, 1777-1778, tells the previously untold story of 17 prominent Quakers who were exiled to Virginia to silence their opposition to independence. CODES CORNER:

Bamboo

In 2025, Kennett Township passed an ordinance to ban bamboo. Bamboo is an invasive plant that grows and spreads quickly if unkept. The ordinance establishes three distinct regulations:

  1. New bamboo cannot be planted, and
  2. All bamboo within 40 feet of a Township Road must be removed, and
  3. If bamboo exists on a property in 2025, no matter its origination point, the property owner must stop bamboo from spreading or allowing it to grow on to a neighboring property.

Want to remove bamboo on your property? Resources from Brandywine Conservancy or University of Maryland Extension offer guidance for removing bamboo.

Please note: Disposal of bamboo is prohibited at the Kennett Township Yard Waste Debris Center
