Septic Systems

Many properties in the Township use individual septic systems. Regular pumping, inspections, and proper use help prevent system failures, environmental contamination, and costly repairs.

In 2013, Kennett Township established a septic system management ordinance, Chapter 180 of the Kennett Township Code. This program established that every property owner with a septic system must have the system pumped once every three (3) years.

If your property uses a septic system and you have questions, the Township or Chester County Health Department – Environmental Services can share resources related to maintenance expectations. Have questions? Please call at 610-388-1300 or email at kmorgenstern@kennett.pa.us

Katelynn Morgenstern, PP, AICP, Director of Planning & Zoning

The Planning Brief is a new twice-monthly feature in the Township Enews designed to provide residents and property owners with clear, practical information about planning, zoning, permitting, and property maintenance requirements. The goal of The Planning Brief is to share proactive guidance, answer common questions, and help residents understand applicable rules before issues arise—supporting informed decision-making and consistent expectations across the Township.

The Work Zone: Updates from our Public Works Crew

ROAD SAFETY UPDATE:

The Public Works crew continues to work along several Township roads to trim back overgrown vegetation and tree branches.  Tree branches and vegetation need to be a minimum of four feet from the road edge as well as 18 ft above the road to allow safe passage of vehicles.  Additional clearing is needed in certain areas to allow for improved sight distances.

If you have any questions, please call the Ted Otteni, Director of Public Works at 610.388.1300 ext. 112.  Please bear with us as we complete this road safety exercise.

CORRECT AMOUNT OF SALT TO USE

WHAT'S THE CORRECT AMOUNT OF SALT?

A little salt goes a long way. Being a “smart salter” helps keep walkways safe while protecting our streams and environment.

Always shovel first to clear snow before it turns to ice. When salting, remember that one 12-ounce mug of salt is enough to treat a 20-foot driveway or about 10 sidewalk squares—more salt doesn’t mean more safety. After conditions improve, sweep up any excess salt and reuse it.

Using the right amount saves money, protects water quality, and keeps our community safe all winter long.  Additional information can be found on the SALT WATCH-IZAAK WALTON LEAGUE OF AMERICA website.
