BOARD OF SUPERVISORS 

The Kennett Township Board of Supervisors (BOS) will hold a hybrid meeting on Wednesday, October 8th at 7:00 pm in the Public Meeting Room.   Items on the agenda include: Presentation on the 2026 Operating Budget, a grant application for America250, the Deed of Dedication for Phillips Mushroom and a Resolution streamlining the process for foundation only permits.

Please note that the next time the Municipal Facility Expansion will be on the agenda will be on October 22, 2025.  There are not any decisions being made at the October 8th meeting and the proposed facility is separate from the Operating Budget for 2026.

Community Planning Month

PLANNING AND ZONING DEPARTMENT HEAD REPORT SUMMARY

Planning & Zoning Department Head Report presented at the Board of Supervisors Meeting on Sept. 17, 2025

  • Planning Commission: September meeting was canceled. Land development applications remain accessible via the Township website.

  • Planning – West Chester University: Students are conducting a community engagement and visioning project for Spar Hill Farm & Preserve. Township staff provided background information and will continue to support student-led engagement, with a final report expected in mid-December 2025.

  • Historical Commission: Hosted Mr. Steve Morse, descendant of Bernard Wiley, who shared oral history and details of the Wiley Cloud House, a site of statewide historic significance.

  • Permits & Fees (August 2025):

    • 9 building permits issued ($2,671 in fees) – lowest monthly total in 5 years.

    • 6 rental permits issued ($750 in fees).

    • Early September activity shows return to average levels.

  • Construction Updates:

    • The Parks at North Walnut: 183 dwelling units + 2 commercial spaces; initial site development underway.

    • Rosedale Walk: Residential project on Rosedale Rd; site work continues.

    • Enclave at Sills Mill: 3-lot subdivision; permits issued and two homes under construction.

  • Community Reminder: Permits are required for construction, renovations, generators, HVAC, decks, paving, etc. Information and forms available at kennett.pa.us.

Spar Hill Community Survey

SPAR HILL COMMUNITY SURVEY

Kennett Township has partnered with West Chester University Geography and Planning Department students to help facilitate resident feedback for the future use of the Spar Hill property. This survey is intended to be used as a collection of informative data which will help shape said plans and understand the needs of the community. Your feedback is greatly appreciated!


The Work Zone: Updates from our Public Works Crew

ROAD CLOSURE: MCFARLAN ROAD IMPROVEMENT PROJECT UPDATE

The Kennett Township Department of Public Works is leading an important road improvement project as explained in previous emails and on our website.

Beginning this week (10/6), work will begin on the Phase 2 portion of McFarlan Road, from Rosedale Road to New Granite Way.

McFarlan Road will be CLOSED between Rosedale Road to New Granite Way starting on Tuesday, October 7.

This phase is anticipated to last for two weeks. Thank you for your continued patience as we implement drainage improvements and shoulder widening along McFarlan Road. Once the drainage and shoulder work is completed, the roadway will be stabilized for the winter. McFarlan Road will be paved, from Rosedale to Hillendale, in the spring of 2026.

Recycling Reminder

LOCATION: The Kennett Township Recycling Center is located at the Township Maintenance Garage at 557 Bayard Road.

HOURS: The Recycling Center is open DAWN to DUSK, Monday through Saturday and 10:00 am to Dusk on Sundays.

Yard Waste Reminder

Please be sure to review our updated rules to ensure compliance and avoid any violations. Located at 557 Bayard Rd.  The Yard Waste Debris Center is open Monday -Saturday, dawn to dusk and on Sundays from 10 am to dusk.  Additional information can be found HERE.

  • The Yard Waste Debris Center is for Kennett Township Residents only.
  • All contractors must be accompanied by the property owner.
  • No large stumps.
  • No bamboo. 
  • No dirt, stones, brick or concrete.

CHILDREN'S READ-ALOUD TOUR

Join us for “Layla’s Happiness” by Mariahadessa Ekere Tallie! Young children and their grown-ups will enjoy a story, explore art in the Museum, and create their own masterpieces in this hands-on, popular program. This Thursday, October 9, 2025 at 10:30 a.m. at Brandywine Museum of Art. This year at Bike Fest '25 come out for a free BMX show! Join us on Oct 11 from 1-5pm (BMX show at 2pm) at 600 S. Broad St in Kennett Square. 

Come out to 600 S. Broad Street, Kennett Square, PA, for a celebration of biking, community, and outdoor fun! In the weeks leading up to the big day, there will be Learn to Ride and Obstacle Course Pop-Ups throughout the community—including Oxford—to get riders of all ages excited and ready. Then, mark your calendars for a fun-filled day on the Greenway with riding, games, and opportunities to connect with fellow cycling enthusiasts. Chilling West Chester Walking Tour

CHILLING WEST CHESTER WALKING TOUR

Discover two centuries of true tales of murder, mischief, and misadventure on this 90-minute walking tour led by historians from the Chester County History Center. From prison horrors to courthouse trials and local disasters, explore the borough’s spine-chilling history—drawn straight from the archives.  Meet at the Chester County History Center.  This event is recurring weekly on Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday. The Great Pumpkin Carve

THE GREAT PUMPKIN CARVE 2025

Celebrate a beloved Chadds Ford tradition at the Great Pumpkin Carve, October 16–18, 2025! Over 70 giant pumpkins will be carved by local artists on Thursday night and lit for display through Friday and Saturday. Each evening features a Haunted Trail, raffle prizes, and live music from Kenny Thompson & Friends, with food, local craft beer, and wine available for purchase. Tickets are $15 for adults, $5 for children 7–17, and free for children 6 and under or CFHS members, with free parking at the meadow next to the Chadds Ford Historical Society. Tickets are purchased on-site (cash and credit accepted). Event hours are Thursday 2–9 PM, Friday 2–10 PM, and Saturday 12–10 PM. For more info, visit www.greatpumpkincarve.com.


FREE DRIVE THRU SHRED EVENT

SAVE THE DATE: FREE SHRED EVENT

State Representative Christina Sappey will host a free drive-thru shred event on Saturday, October 18, 2025, from 9–11 AM at West Bradford Embreeville Park, 1818 Hecker Drive, West Chester, PA 19382.

Attendees are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food donation to benefit the KACS Food Cupboard (donations are not required to participate).  For more information, please contact Rep. Sappey’s District Office at (484) 200-8264.

FALL FESTIVAL AT STROUD PRESERVE


Join the NextGen Council for it's inaugural Fall Festival at Stroud Preserve on Saturday, October 18, from 1:00–5:00 PM! Celebrate the autumn season with local artisans and vendors, festive crafts for all ages, a scavenger hunt, live music by Anna Spackman (2–4 PM), and a delicious food truck. Don’t miss the costume contests for kids, adults, and pets—plus a Masquerade Hike at 4:15 PM. KENNETT REGIONAL FIRE DEPARTMENT FALL FESTIVAL


Join Kennett, Longwood, and Po-Mar-Lin Fire Companies for their 2nd Annual Fall Festival on Sunday, October 19 from 1–4 PM at Po-Mar-Lin Fire Company (36 Firehouse Dr., Unionville). Enjoy live music by Demitri Grivas, food and drinks from Saloon 151, kids’ activities with the Kennett Library, pumpkin painting, raffles, and even the Eagles game projected on-site!

This free, family-friendly event celebrates community, fire safety, and the regional partnership of the three companies. Free parking is available at Unionville Elementary School. Learn more HERE.


Mushroom Cap Half Marathon

SAVE THE DATE FOR THE RACE

Celebrate 10 years of the Mushroom Cap Half Marathon & FunGi 5-Miler in the Mushroom Capital of the World on Saturday, November 8, 2025. The Half Marathon winds through scenic country roads and historic landmarks, while the FunGi 5-Miler takes runners past mushroom farms and iconic Kennett Square streets, finishing in a downhill rush to the 10th Year Celebration Festival. Participants enjoy a finisher medal, race swag, post-race local eats, Victory or Athletic Brewing beer, live music by the Holy Smokers, and a lively community festival to celebrate every finish!  Additional information can be found HERE.
