KTPD Mail Thefts

Kennett Township Police Dept.: PSA

Chief Matthew Gordon of the Kennett Township Police Department announced at the Board of Supervisors Public Meeting on Wednesday, March 19th in his Department Head Report that he number of reported thefts from mailboxes continues to rise. It appears that residents are being targeted when mailbox flags are up to alert mail carriers that mail needs to be picked up. We ask that our residents exercise caution when putting checks in the mail and, as always, report suspicious activity! If you have a security camera, consider aiming it to capture your mailbox and make sure it is functioning properly.

Reminder: Dogs must be on leash at all times

Kaolin Road Paving

Old Kennett Pike & Kaolin Road Roadwork

Beginning this week (March 24th), PennDOT will begin operations to mill and pave Old Kennett Pike from the Delaware state line to Kaolin Road (Five Points intersection).

Weather dependent, PennDOT’s contractor will mill (grind off) 1.5” of existing asphalt and will then pave a new 1.5” layer of asphalt.

Traffic will be maintained through the work zone with alternating one-way traffic.  Motorists are advised to allow extra time while work is being performed. Alternatively, motorists could avoid the work zone altogether via alternate routes.

The work is anticipated to last three weeks.

Five Points Traffic Signal

New Traffic Signal Pole At Five Points

The traffic signal pole replacement at the Five Points intersection will begin this week.  On Tuesday, March 25th, the contractor will excavate and place the steel reinforcement for the foundation.  On Wednesday, March 26th, concrete will be poured for the foundation.  Next week, the new pole will be installed on the new/relocated foundation.

The new traffic signal pole is being installed in a new location, further offset from the existing pole which has been hit three times in the past year.  The revised traffic signal pole location will be compatible with the future intersection improvement project which will include the installation of left turn lanes on several of the approaches.  The Township continues to coordinate with PennDOT for the intersection improvements.  The updated Five Points Intersection Analysis Report was presented to the Board of Supervisors on June 19, 2024.  The report can be viewed here: https://kennett.pa.us/DocumentCenter/View/7713/Agenda-Item-7_b-Five-Points-Analysis-Report
