Ordinance 307

How Can I Dispose of__________?

HOW DO I DISPOSE OF ________________?

The Chester County Solid Waste Authority (CCSWA) receives many inquiries each year about what can and can't be recycled or disposed of. Examples of unusual questions include whether items like credit cards, water filters, taxidermy, and plastic soda rings can be recycled (they cannot and should go in the trash). Items like road flares, pepper spray, and nail polish remover require registration for a Household Hazardous Waste event. The CCSWA encourages residents to consider whether an item can be repaired, donated, or reused before disposal.

The CCSWA operates the Lanchester Landfill for the northern part of Chester County, offering an A-Z list for disposal options, including recycling, composting, hazardous waste, electronics, and more. The Southeastern Chester County Refuse Authority (SECCRA) operates the SECCRA Landfill for the southern region. Both landfills provide resources and contact information for residents seeking specific disposal guidance.

Be "Trash Smart" and follow local guidelines for waste disposal.  For more information click here.
