A Special Announcement from the Historical Commission:
If your home was built in previous centuries, or even in the last few years, The Kennett Township Historical Commission is planning a workshop in early February, 2025, that will assist homeowners in researching your home’s history (even if your home is relatively new, it might be interesting to find the owner of your land in the 18th century). Jeff Marshall and HISTORY ATTIC RESEARCH will help by giving you research tips. Please email Fredda Pennock at Pennockfredda@yahoo.com, if you would be interested in attending. The date will be announced in the future.

A Message from the EAC: Invasive Plants: Japanese Stiltgrass
Invasive plants outcompete native plants by taking over available space, absorbing sunlight or shading, using nutrients efficiently and sometimes even changing the soil chemistry. Japanese Stiltgrass, Microstegium vimineum, grows in almost every condition, sun to shade, moist to dry. It is an annual, meaning it produces foliage, flowers and seeds in one year and then dies. However, one plant can produce between 100 to 1000 seeds. Each stem is supported by small stilt like prop roots, giving the species its name. It can form a dense tangled mat that smothers desirable plants. The plant flowers and produces seed from early September through October. These seeds can be dispersed accidentally on contaminated surfaces, such as vehicles, shoes, soil, and animals.
