Kennett Township: On Friday March 13th, Kennett Township issued a Disaster Emergency Declaration in response to the COVID-19/Coronavirus outbreak in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and County of Chester. The declaration followed the federal, state, and county governments each declaring a state of emergency in response to the pandemic. The declaration issued by the Township allows Township Departments, in conjunction with the Township Emergency Management Coordinator, to suspend regulatory requirements deemed necessary to respond to this disaster and to conduct Township Business. Township Office Hours- The Township office will be closed to the public but still accessible by email and phone from 8:00 am. to 4:30 pm. 610-388-1300 or Kennett.twp@kennett.pa.us.Essential staff will continue to serve the public in their roles with some working remotely and others in the office as the situation allows. Public Meetings- The Township has cancelled all public meetings through the end of the month which includes the March 18th meeting of the Board of Supervisors. In person meetings with Township staff are limited to essential meetings only. Planning & Zoning- The Township will not be accepting any Land Development/Sub-Division applications or Zoning appeals through March 30th. The April meetings of the Planning Commission and Zoning Hearing Board are TBD. Building Permits & Inspections- The Township will continue to receive building permit applications electronically and via USPS with inspections completed on a limited basis. Sewer Utility Fees- Sewer utility bills have not yet been disbursed. When residents receive their bill, they are encouraged to make payments at kennett.pa.us or by USPS. Public Works- the Township Public Works Department will conduct limited work at this time. Any employees working will be following recommended social distancing as well limiting any public interaction. We will respond to emergencies as needed. Parks & Recreation- Barkingfield Park will remain open except for the dog parks. Township trails will remain open and accessible by the public. Visitors to Barkingfield Park and Township trails are encouraged to practice social distancing. Township Spring Cleanup- The Township Spring Cleanup Day originally scheduled for March 28th has been cancelled. The Township yard waste recycle center remains open to Township residents. Police- The Kennett Township Police Department will continue to respond to calls as normal while taking necessary steps to protect the health and safety of our officers and the public. Fire/EMS- Our volunteer fire companies, and their EMS teams will continue to respond to calls as normal, taking necessary steps to protect the health and safety of emergency personnel and the public. Township Residents- Township residents are asked to sign up for alerts from the County of Chester at www.readychesco.org. This will help keep you informed of any changes and emergency alerts. Additionally, please subscribe to the Township email list for information from Kennett Township, https://kennett.pa.us/list.aspx. We understand these are very challenging times. This will require cooperation and flexibility, and everyone has a role to play. The Township operations will function but in a much more limited capability. Emergency services and vital public services will NOT be affected. It is important that you follow the recommendations of appropriate health agencies.
