Accounting Assistant, Finance Department

Seeking part-time and full-time applicants

Kennett Township is seeking an Accounting Assistant to join our Finance & HR team.  The Accounting Assistant will assist with a variety of accounting, finance and administrative tasks.  This person will be responsible for bank reconciliation and accounts receivable/revenue processes.  The Accounting Assistant will also be heavily cross-trained to assist with peaks in workload, back-up other team members and assist with special projects.   This may include HR tasks, sewer billing, escrow account processes, accounts payable (A/P) and backing up the Township receptionist/permit coordinator.  The Accounting Assistant will also provide administrative support to the Finance & HR Director and perform other tasks as assigned.

We are considering applications for both part-time and full-time.  A part-time position would be for an average of 20 hours per week at our offices.  A full-time position would be for 40 hours per week.  Due to COVID-19, our team is currently working a hybrid schedule which includes every Tuesday and Wednesday in the office and a third day to be scheduled between the Finance/HR Director and each team member.   Both positions will include every Tuesday and Wednesday in the office and a third day to be scheduled.  Currently, a full-time position would provide for the option to work remotely up to two days per week.  However, depending on the success of the hybrid approach and the progression of COVID, this remote situation is not guaranteed to continue indefinitely.  We may be required to return to in office on a full-time basis.

Planner, Planning & Zoning Department

Kennett Township, located in southern Chester County Pennsylvania, is seeking an experienced Planner to join their growing team. Kennett Township is comprised of 15.48 square miles of land and is home to just over 8,000 people. Much of the Township is protected open space guided by a master plan ripe for execution. In addition, there are other areas of the community ripe for growth, specifically close to the Borough of Kennett Square – which is a separate municipality located within the borders of Kennett Township. The Township seeks to bring previous master planning of economic development, trails, and open space preservation to life while preserving the character, history, and culture of the community. 

In 2016, the Township in partnership with the Borough of Kennett Square commissioned an Economic Development Study. This Study highlighted immense growth pressure, infrastructure development needs, housing shortages, and a lack of affordable housing. The Planner will be at the forefront of addressing these challenges facing the community as well as achieving 30% open space preservation and promoting sustainable energy.

The person in this position will administer community planning programs in accordance with the Subdivision and Land Development Ordinance, assist with the enforcement of the Zoning Ordinances, and will work with the Township’s Planning Commission, Zoning Hearing Board, Historic Commission, and other similar committees/commissions.

In addition to the sophisticated planning functions listed above, the Planner we are seeking will be responsible for assisting in the coordination of the Township’s land use management, zoning and development review, and historic preservation. Working closely with our neighbors will be imperative as will working closely with the other Departments at Kennett Township: Public Works, Finance, Administration, and the Kennett Township Police Department. There will also be technical and administrative work managing the planning and zoning process.
