2009 indians of pennsylvania

A near-capacity audience attended the 2009 Kennett Township Historical Commission's "Indians of Pennsylvania" Thursday evening, May 28th.  Many colorful bouquets of peonies from the collector's garden of the late Mrs. Joseph Hannum welcomed visitors.

Kennett Township Supervisor, Bob Hammaker, helped Program Chair, Mary Clark Keyser and Awards Chair, Sara Hannum Meadows welcomed guest Dr. Marshall Becker, Commonwealth Speaker for the Pennsylvania Humanities Council.

Displays of stone Indian tools and arrowheads, along with dioramas depicting "Indians Planting Corn" and a  "Lenape Encampment," were exhibited compliments of Anna May Case, Marion B. Guthrie, and Barry Chandler.

2009 Kennett Township Historical Commission Honorees were recognized:  Dick & Donna Bacon, historic preservation; Paul & Doris Mehne, former KTHC members; and Katharine & Andrew Witherspoon, historic preservation.  Awards Coordinator, Sara Hannum Meadows, displayed the gift of an 1873 Township map.

This presentation was a program of the Pennsylvania Humanities Council, supported in part by a grant from the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission.  The Pennsylvania Humanities Council, a nonprofit organization, inspires individuals to enjoy and share a life of learning.
